Frog is a simple no-fluff content management system that helps to manage pages, templates, users and files. It began as a PHP fork of the well known Ruby on Rails application named Radiant CMS, but has actually moved well beyond that now.

Our Impressions:

Frog’s strength is in its simplicity. As soon as you log in you’re brought to the page listing, pages can be in any kind of hierarchy and they’re super easy to reorder and move. “Snippets” are little blocks that can be dropped anywhere in the website you need and give the system its flexibility. It has a small but active community that answers questions quickly and helpfully.

Frog’s development team lately has been mostly absent lately. Use a fork of Frog CMS called Wolf CMS.

This is a little side project by Stateless Systems. CushyCMS is the easiest CMS you will ever implement. Essentially, it is a hosted service that allows users to change content via a web-interface, and then have it uploaded back to the server.

Our Experience:

If you don’t want to take the time to figure out all of the mumbo-jumbo of all the other CMS’s (such as installing software, creating databases, learning their tags, etc.) this is the CMS for you. (It took us about 10 minutes to convert a site for Cushy to use) It is extremely client friendly, and easy to figure out for simple, static websites. It can handle a few various types of content including headlines, text, images, and code.

That’s about it though. If you’re looking for anything more dynamic, or more complicated then this probably isn’t for you.

Radiant is one of the few CMS's for Rails. It is an utterly simple and straightforward way to manage a website. You can create pages, snippets, and layouts to form the basis of your website. The team has deliberately chosen to keep the core simple and allow others to add on with extensions.

Our Impressions:

Radiant is quite simple and elegant in its concept and interface. Any user, no matter how computer literate, immediately understands how to create new pages and edit them. As soon as you log in you’re brought to a hierarchical listing of pages. Snippets allow you the flexibility to create sidebars and menus that would be repetitive other wise. Layouts help you to manage you templates.

Radiant is only meant to do so much. If you’re trying to build a complicated site with a lot of pages, this is not the answer. You also have to be willing/ready to figure out how to install Ruby on Rails applications, which is quite different than the normal PHP installation.
