Website Baker

Website baker could be compared to a Joomla-style CMS, but is much less overwhelming. It has the right amount of functionality to make a solid website that will make clients quick to understand it, and happy to use it.

Our Impressions:

It has the right amount of features for what it aims to do. It would work well for simple websites that may need to be edited by non technical people later. It has great permissions allowing you to customize what your client sees, a nice media uploader, and the ability to add modules if needed.

The admin interface accomplishes what it needs to, but it isn’t pretty and it can get repetitive at times to accomplish tasks. The media uploader is nice, but doesn’t integrate in with when a user wants to put a photo into their page layout.

Strengths: One of the easiest systems (front- and backend) i tested in the last months.
PROs

+ good Group/User-Administration
+ simple/good Guestbook
+ Random-Image Droplet
+ simple include with “global blocks”
+ many usefull Modules and Droplets
+ good jQuery support
NEUTRAL
* Multi-Lingual Support
* Calendar & Events is relatevily fixed in the design
* Modul Members for administration of member info
* Listing with Dirlist

Weaknesses: CONS

Strengths: The easiest cms I have come across for end users. Very easy for end-users to manage their own sites. The administration menu is very basic, and well laid out.

Very easy installation of additional design templates and program modules.

Many free website designs to download. Quite a few program add-ons available which provide models for developers to learn from.

Weaknesses: The documentation is good, but developers will need to hunt around and ask questions. A fair bit of the information is in German. No tutorials to speak of.

I’m not convinced the “framework” is robust enough for big sites?

Strengths: – Websitebaker is perfect especially for people who need a CMS that is easy to use and doesn’t need much work to go on with. So if you want to learn it to someone how to add content and manage a site on his own – no problem!
– It fits very well for people who don’t want to make a big project with their website, but just want to present their company or create a portfolio of themselves or their association. That doesn’t mean that bigger projects can’t be achieved with Websitebaker.
– I never saw a CMS which it was easier to create your own template with a little knowledge of html and css. There are also a lot of free templates ready to download instantly.
– The community is quite big and very nice, also if someone needs more patience ;-).
– There are about 180 modules so far to be used in Websitebaker.

Weaknesses: – It’s very difficult to build a community website with Websitebaker.
– All of the modules are stable, but not all are deeply matured.
