Strengths: Great number of extensions (many alternatives for the same thing), powerfull, typoscript allow to gain flexibility whitout devlopping custom php plug-in.

Weaknesses: It takes a lots of time to learn typoscript, the documentation is undetailled and need more exemples, the CMS is getting old ... lots of extension not updated since 2005 using table for design purpose, etc...

Conclusion : It's like an old complex tank, you don't go hunt with it but could be usefull depend on your need.

Strengths: If you know it there are barely no limitations.
There is a huge vivid community.

Weaknesses: Its not so good for smaller websites.
It takes some time to learn it.

Strengths: Enterprise class WCM / CMS
Huge number of features and extensions
Unlimited scalability
Open source and free
Huge international developer community
Multiple domains/sites on one installation
Multi-lingual
too many other strengths to list, TYPO3 is the best open source CMS solution, open source or not

Weaknesses: steep learning curve as with any CMS with enterprise capabilities
